The most frequent cause

What is the Androgenetic alopecia ?

It is the most common cause of hair loss in our environment. It is a condition with a significant genetic component combined with a determining hormonal factor: hormones act on hair follicles, accelerating their miniaturisation and, over time, their definitive disappearance.

Unlike other causes of hair loss, androgenetic alopecia is a progressive process. This is why early diagnosis is essential.

Why early consultation?

When hair follicles progressively miniaturise, a point is reached where they no longer respond to pharmacological treatment. Acting in the early stages allows hair loss to be slowed down, density to be recovered, and transplant surgery to be postponed – or even avoided.

Genetic component

Predisposition is inherited. If there is a family history, the risk of developing androgenetic alopecia is significantly higher.

Hormonal component

Androgenic hormones act on hair follicles, reducing their size and shortening the hair lifecycle.

Men and women

Although more visible in men, it also affects women with a distinct but equally relevant pattern.

Progressive process

Without treatment, hair loss progresses gradually. Early diagnosis is the best strategy for managing hair.

Accurate diagnosis

How do we evaluate your case?

When a patient arrives at our unit, we carry out a full study before proposing any treatment. The aim is to have an accurate diagnosis that allows us to offer the best solution for each person.

Trichoscopy

Non-invasive examination using a portable microscope. We visualise the scalp in detail: follicle status, hair thickness, density per area, and signs of inflammation or miniaturisation. It is the benchmark test.

Full analytics

Blood analysis with hormonal values and nutritional deficiency markers. Altered levels of iron, ferritin, zinc, vitamin D, or hormones can be a direct cause of hair loss or aggravate pre-existing alopecia.

Bespoke treatment

There is no single protocol. We create a precise map of each patient's hair condition and design a bespoke plan, combining the most effective options for their specific case.

Beyond the physical aspect

How does alopecia affect quality of life?

Hair loss is not merely an aesthetic issue. It affects people of all ages - including young people who begin to notice it at puberty - and can have a real psychological impact: insecurity, loss of self-esteem, and changes in how they relate to others socially.

For women, the impact is often particularly significant, as female alopecia is less socially visible, but no less frequent or relevant because of it.

Young people and adults

Hair loss can begin in adolescence. For younger patients, the impact on self-esteem is especially pronounced.

It also affects women

Female androgenetic alopecia follows a diffuse pattern and can go unnoticed for years. Its emotional impact warrants specialised attention.

Effective treatment

Options for combating Alopecia

The solutions for androgenetic alopecia are divided into two main avenues: pharmacological treatment and hair transplantation. In our unit, we always prioritise medical treatment as the first line, reserving surgery for cases where it is truly necessary.

Minoxidil

Vasodilator that increases blood flow to the scalp, stimulating hair growth. Available as a topical solution and in tablet form.

Finasteride

Blocks the androgenic hormonal action on the follicles. Slows hair loss, increases hair thickness, and improves density.

Finasteride

More potent than finasteride. It is one of the most effective drugs for male androgenetic alopecia.

Stem the decline, regain density

With the correct treatment, patients can slow hair loss, regain thickness in existing hairs, and improve the visual density of their hair. The best results are obtained when treatment is started in the early stages of alopecia.

Early diagnosis
The earlier the diagnosis, the lower the likelihood of needing a transplant.

Transplant is an excellent option when it's necessary, but it should always be the last resort, not the first.

Hair transplant

Sapphire FUE Hair Transplant

When the affected area has lost all hair or the follicles have miniaturised to the point where they no longer respond to treatment, hair transplantation is the definitive solution. With the Sapphire FUE technique, we achieve natural and permanent results: Hair that has been transplanted will never fall out.

Donor hair is extracted from the back and sides of the head, where there are no hormonal receptors. Once transplanted, it retains its original characteristics and remains for life.

The 3 stages

How is a Sapphire FUE transplant performed

1. Design and Incisions

The doctor designs the new implantation line and delineates the donor area. With a sapphire crystal blade – hence the name Sapphire FUE – micro-incisions are made through which the follicles will subsequently be inserted. The precision of the sapphire instrument minimises tissue trauma and promotes faster healing.

2. Follicular Unit Extraction

Work is carried out on the donor area, extracting each follicular unit one by one with a small-diameter punch. The extracted follicles are carefully classified according to their hair count to plan their optimal distribution in the recipient area.

3. Implantation of Follicles

All extracted follicular units are inserted one by one into the incisions made in the first phase, respecting the natural direction and angle of the hair. The result is a head of hair with a completely natural appearance that will last a lifetime.
